Bio
Dr. Hiroyasu is a 2020 graduate of the Bren School here at UCSB, and will be giving a talk entitled, "From Science to Application: Creating data-driven tools to guide conservation".
Abstract
As scientists, as we draft discussion section in journal articles, we often imagine how our hard-earned knowledge will be applied in the “real world.” In this talk I will demonstrate how conservation practitioners use open source data, research, and stakeholder input to design a tool to aid in conservation planning. I’ll use the conservation planning tool of “greenprinting” to show how various types of data can be aggregated to reveal co-benefits of conservation and influence how and where we develop.
